Tourney Bracket

Last Tuesday was so much FUN! I think that is the best we've played all season. If we play that way this Tuesday night for the tournament, we've got a shot at first. Granted, there are some seriously talented guys in this league, but I truly believe that we can hang with any team you put us up against. Eat your Wheaties though, because we keep playing until we either lose 2 matches or win the whole thing. Let's do the latter.

We played well this past Tuesday. We came out 2-2, but I felt we played very solid. We just keep getting better every week. Let's carry that on into the tourney. Here are some digital stills of us in action!

League Rules and Notes

League Rules & Notes:

• Play times for all leagues is between 6 and 10 pm, except for the Sunday league which is between 1 and 5 pm.
• Teams may have as many subs as they want, as long as they don't play on another team in the same division in the same league. There is no roster. The "roster" is the players a team used during the league season. Only those players may play in the league tourney at the end of the season.
• If there are Coed Sixes teams that are coming from a distance to Fort Wayne I can alter the schedule so that teams can play 3 to 5 matches each night to make traveling worth the while.
• Reverse Coed (on Fridays) is where the net is set at Women's height and only women can hit and block at the net. Men have to hit behind the ten foot line.
• Matches are two games to 18, 21 cap (rally scoring).
• Prizes for winning the league tourney can include a $15 discount on an upcoming season, but is usually a T-shirt, or something like that.
• Net serves are legal. One toss per serve attempt is allowed. One time-out per game.
• Teams get at least 2 minutes on-court warm up time.
• Tourney rules for Coed Sixes: Teams need a minimum of 3 players to start (and at least one female). Teams may play with one more male than female during the season. In the tourney, teams need 3 women on court to play with 3 men. It is always ok to have more women on court than men.
• If a team is forced to forfeit a first game, the 2nd game of a match is not forfeited until 15 minutes after the match start time. An extra 5 minutes grace period to avoid a forfeit will be given to teams playing on weekdays 6:30 and before.
• Additional forfeit notes: If a team has no players present at game time or the conclusion of the previous match, game one of the next match is forfeited. If a team has at least one player present then that team has the two minute warm-up period to produce a player before game one is forfeited.
• Spiece has child care available until 8 pm for younger kids.

The Team

Culver's Volleyball is newly formed team that shows a tremendous amount of promise. Three of these 4 guys have played together before, and they are anxious to get this new season started. This 4 on 4 league is extremely competitve, but these guys are up for the challenge.

Here's the roster:

Shannon "Come Out Smelling Like A" Rose has been working hard to overcome having such a girlie name.....and I believe he has done it.....almost. This boy is on the floor more than he is upright. He lives to return the unreturnable, dig the undiggable, and he has the strawberries and bruises to prove it. Gotta love this guy's determination.

Chris "The Shepherd" Gerardot is the eldest on the team; in fact, he's the "elder". Chris has been taking notes watching his 2 daughters play in their high school matches. Let's hope he's picked up a thing or two. Actually, this guy has been the posterboy for consistancy (or should I say "pastorboy"?).

The rookie is the next on our list, Ryan Page. This Page is unwritten, never having played organized volleyball, but he has been recruited with high expectations. He has been on the Disabled List, but the team doctor has given him clearance to play. Ryan will be the rookie setter for the other 3 veterans.

Last but not least, Kyle Zimmerman. Zimmy loves how this team looks, and he will the acting head coach. He had his ups and down in the beach league, but he has been chomping at the bit to get into the gym. We'll see what he can do indoors.

The season starts on Halloween, so I guess we'll see you there!
